Course Overview
This course is a survey study designed to give the student a sense of perspective and appreciation of the history of the church, from the time of the Early Church in Acts to the Pre-Reformers. Primary attention is devoted to the major events, individuals, and issues that have played significant roles in church history. The scope of this course will be on the major theologians and their teachings prior to the Reformation.
This course is taken completely online, on-demand (at your own pace), but is designed to be taken over 10 weeks. The student should plan to allocate 2-3 hours each week to gain the most from the course. This includes approximately 60 minutes of pre-recorded video lectures and notetaking, 30-60 minutes of reading, and time for review, reflection, and quizzes.

Dr. Nathan Busenitz began teaching at The Master’s University in 2000 as an adjunct faculty member in the Communication Department. In summer 2004, he taught Bibliology and Hermeneutics for TMU’s Center of Professional Studies; and that same year began teaching English Grammar for The Master’s Seminary.
From 2003 to 2009, Nathan served as a full-time member of the pastoral staff at Grace Community Church. During this time, he worked as the director of the Shepherds’ Fellowship, the managing editor of Pulpit magazine, and also as the personal assistant to John MacArthur.
In 2008, Nathan began teaching Historical Theology at The Master’s Seminary, and joined the full-time faculty in 2009. He completed his doctorate in church history, with a specific focus on patristic theology. He currently serves as one of the pastors of Cornerstone, a fellowship group at Grace Community Church.
